A voltage regulator is a 3-terminal device. :) Hi, My newly installed MSD-7-AL-2 is workin' great but when wiring heavy red wire to battery and small red to 12V key switched the engine doesn't stop. Without a resistance wire, the engine will keep running after the key is off due to feedback thru the (#1) exciter wire and thru a common splice with the coil. Also notice the sense wire connects to the starter solenoid and it is fused. btw as Randal says, Ohm's law implies that the alternator will only supply current as long as the battery voltage is low. The pictures below show a CS130 alternator vs. Easiest is to run a wire from the #2 terminal (marked on back of alt) of the built in regulator right to the output stud on the back of the alternator.
